American Private Label has taken a stand against the use of many ingredients found in today’s cosmetics. As part of this stand, American Private Label has signed the Compact For Safe Cosmetics and has banned 1,100 ingredients from its Research & Development laboratory. This dramatic move is part of American Private Label’s plan to go global and meet the European Union (EU) formulation standards, which considers these 1,100 ingredients as harmful and toxin.
Today's consumer is more heath conscious, more environmentally conscious and understands importance of "going green". But it goes beyond that. Consumers are becoming more and more aware of the effects of toxic chemicals on us and the earth.
The body's largest organ is our skin. Up to 60% of certain ingredients found in our personal care products, including face moisturizers, body lotions and bath gels, will absorb in to the bloodstream - according to a CBS News Report. These chemicals can accumulate in target organs or are metabolized through our system, sometimes over a period of years - according to Mount Sinai.
“We have taken a stand! Personal care products, that are properly formulated, are not only better for you - but more effective than the synthetic chemicals found in most products today”, says David Pollock, CEO of American Private Label.
Natural Solutions magazine, in collaboration with the national retailer Whole Foods, ranked the top dangerous chemicals found in personal care products. This list includes: Parabens, Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates, Petrochemicals like Mineral Oil and Petrolatum, Synthetic Fragrances and Synthetic Colorants. Side effects from these harmful chemicals are reported to include hormone disruption, won’t allow skin to breathe, clog pores, cause skin rashes, eye irritation, damage to the reproductive system and others.
American Private Label is leading the way in Green Chemistry and has recently signed the “Compact for Safe Comsetics”. By signing the Compact, American Private Label pledged that all of the products formulated by the Company will meet or exceed the European Union (EU) formulation standards – which are much stricter than the U.S. regulations and restrictions on chemicals used in personal care products. Currently, the U.S. has banned or restricted only 11 ingredients for use in cosmetics, while the EU Cosmetics Directive bans 1,100 ingredients found to be harmful.
“Brand managers and major retailers are turning to American Private Label to create product lines free of harmful toxins, which are currently found in thousands of personal care products on the market today”, Pollock stated. Pollock continues, "It's not what you put ON your skin, it’s what goes IN your skin that matters most.”
American Private Label product formulations are free of Parabens, Glycols, Artificial Colorants, Artificial Fragrances and meet or exceed the EU Cosmetics Directive.
